Mother: Why I'm glad my 14-year-old can get the vaccine
Hundreds of thousands of children at higher risk from coronavirus infection are to be offered a Covid vaccine in the UK.
The UK's Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) reviewed evidence on the harms and benefits of vaccination and has recommended vaccinating children aged 12-15 if they are at higher risk of Covid due to severe neurodisability, Down's syndrome, a severely weakened immune system or profound and multiple learning difficulties.
Ramandeep Kaur's 14-year-old son has Down's syndrome and will now be offered a vaccine.
Talking to Rachel Burden on 5 Live Breakfast, she described her relief at the news.
"If he was to get Covid, he wouldn't be able to tell us his symptoms," she said.
"It's a real guessing game for us, if he ended up in hospital ... it would be a really scary time for him and us."
