Covid: Unvaccinated nurses 'left behind'
Millions of healthcare workers around the world remain unvaccinated, according to the international Council of Nurses. Most are in low income countries. There were promises they would be among the first to be jabbed. The World Health Organization estimates around 200 have died each day since the pandemic started.
Howard Catton is chief executive of the International Council of Nurses. He told Newsday that around one in 8 healthcare workers have not been fully jabbed.
“Today nurses will be going to work in some countries knowing that they are at higher risk but unvaccinated and at the same time, in rich countries they see unlocking, they see less vulnerable younger people getting the vaccine, people being able to sit on beaches for their holidays because they have been double jabbed whilst they are still waiting. And they feel dispensable and disposable.”
