Ethiopian academic on why he joined the Tigray Defence Forces
A year ago Mulugeta Gebrehiwot Berhe was an academic at Tufts University in Massachusetts. On a family visit to Mekelle, the regional capital of Tigray state, he became stranded when war broke out between the local government and the Ethiopian and Eritrean armies in November 2010. Speaking to Newshour's Julian Marshall, he describes how having worked as a peacemaker in Darfur and elsewhere, what caused him to join the Tigray Defence Forces. Julian began asking him what the atmosphere is currently like in Mekelle.
