Caine prize winner: 'our voices have a space out there'
Meron Hadero has become the first Ethiopian author to win the prestigious AKO Caine Prize for African Writing.
Meron told Newsday about her winning story. “A young man is on the verge of displacement. He learns that his family home might be lost. He then sets out on a mission and tries to take back his fate.”
She said it was important to her being the first Ethiopian to win the award. “I hope this shows our stories are valued and that our voices have a space out there.”
