Brazilian president's electoral fraud claims

A Supreme Court judge in Brazil has ruled President Jair Bolsonaro should be investigated for unproven claims that the country's electronic voting system is vulnerable to fraud. It comes as opinion polls place the right-wing leader far behind the Socialist former president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

Sam Cowie is a journalist based in Sao Paulo. He told Newsday: “He is casting doubt on Brazil’s electronic voting system. He is laying the groundwork to contest the elections in 2022. His popularity has dropped to a record low - 24 per cent.”

He said the president insists there was fraud in 2018, though he has not provided any proof for that.

"Brazil suffered a military coup in the 1960s and Bolsonaro is a big fan of the dictatorship and he looks back on it as a golden age."
