Algeria forest fires: More than 65 dead as fires spread
Wildfires spreading across northern Algeria have now killed at least 65 people, including 28 soldiers deployed to help the firefighters. The fires in the mountainous Kabylie region are some of the worst in the country's history. The flames have been fanned by strong winds and tinder-dry conditions.

Overnight, the fires have spread across the region of Tizi Ouzou. Imene, an Algerian student living in the area and currently helping people there, describes the conditions and how the fires are adding even more pressure to a healthcare system buckling under the strain of looking after patients infected with Covid-19.
