Afghanistan: who are Isis-K ?
The US airlift from Kabul is continuing despite an IS attack at Hamid Karzai airport that killed over 90 people including 13 US service members.
Mina Al Lami is from the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½â€™s Jihadist Monitoring team. She told Newsday more about Isis-K.
“It calls itself Islamic state Khorasan province. It was set up in 2015 by defectors from the Taliban in Pakistan and Afghanistan. It is far more hard line than the Taliban and even more hard line than Al Qaeda.â€
“When the Taliban started making political gains, Isis-K was incensed and jealous. It has since vowed to undermine the Taliban’s efforts to establish order and stability in the country.â€
“The fact that the Taliban went to Doha talking to infidels, that undermined the Taliban in the eyes of the IS militants. It calls the Taliban puppets of the US. It is trying to poach any disgruntled hardliners within the Taliban.â€
