Aryana Sayeed is known as Afghanistan’s Madonna. The Afghan musician and talent show judge is also an activist for women's rights and has championed the freedom of dress code in the country. She has been critical of the Taliban, and she told the ѿý about her escape from her country.
“I have been a target for many years now. We had to try to escape.”
Aryana got on a plane at Kabul airport, but she said it was completely full with a thousand people “piled up on top of eachother ...there was absolutely no oxygen and no air to breathe… and there were people on board with guns.”
Aryana decided to get off that plane and she eventually managed to get on a US military aircraft.
“There was a woman right next to me and was saying she was an American citizen but unfortunately she didn't have her passport with her, and she had a little baby and she handed me the baby and she said can you take the baby with you. It was so heartbreaking, I did not know what to do. I was thinking if I take the baby with me, and she cannot make it, how can I separate the baby from the mother?”
