Argentina v Brazil: 'Absolute farce' as health officials invade pitch
The match was abandoned after officials tried to detain four Argentinian players, accused of failing to follow quarantine rules
In dramatic scenes, Brazilian health officials invaded the pitch just minutes into Brazil and Argentina's World Cup qualifier on Sunday - leading Argentina's team to march off. The game was abandoned.
The officials wanted to detain and deport four Argentinian players who they said had failed to follow quarantine rules. All four play in the premiership in the UK which is a 'red list' country in Brazil.
The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s Tim Vickery says it all puts FIFA in a difficult position as time runs out for qualifiers to take place:
"It is surprising that a last minute compromise wasn't found. Football usually gets a pass in south America. International club competition has gone on while the pandemic was in a much, much worse situation than it is now."
