Afghanistan: fear at Mazar-i-Sharif airport

Hundreds of people who've been given documents to leave Afghanistan remain at Mazar-i-Sharif airport while negotiations continue between the US state department and the Taliban. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken landed in Doha on Monday for urgent talks with Qatari mediators.

Six planes can be seen waiting on the tarmac.

Many of the people were instructed to travel to Mazār-i-Sharīf after they failed to board flights in Kabul.

One woman, who we haven't named, told us they were constantly on the move as they tried to avoid Taliban fighters, who have already arrested a number of people from the group.

"I don't know exactly what's going on but everyday they are saying the US is discussing with the Taliban and tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow. This tomorrow passes but nothing positive happens and still we are waiting here."
