20 years since the assassination of Ahmad Shah Massoud
Two days before the devastating attacks of 9/11, an al-Qaeda suicide squad, posing as journalists, sat down for an interview with the charismatic, and legendary fighter, Ahmed Shah Massoud, the last major commander who was resisting the Taliban in northern Afghanistan. Even before a question was answered, the explosives in the camera were detonated. His close friend and adviser, Massoud Khalili was with him. He survived. He lost sight in one eye and has a body riddled with shrapnel. Razia Iqbal spoke to a man who was himself a fighter, but went onto become a diplomat.
