Biden tells federal workers: Take vaccine or face the consequence
In a televised White House address the president blamed vaccine hesitancy and anti-vax politicians for preventing the country from overcoming the pandemic.
President Biden has announced that tens of millions more American workers will be required to be vaccinated or face disciplinary measures if they refuse. In a televised White House address the president blamed vaccine hesitant Americans and anti-vax politicians for preventing the country from overcoming the pandemic.
The plan involves mandatory jabs for all federal staff and requires private companies employing more than 100 people to ensure all workers are vaccinated or tested weekly.
The response from some politicians was swift with Governor Greg Abbott of Texas tweeting that it was an 'assault on private businesses' and that he would respond with measures to 'halt this power grab'.
One Public Health expert who supports the move is Lawrence Gostin the faculty director of the O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law, and the founding O’Neill chair in global health law at Georgetown University in Washington.
"The President is doing something that is going to make America much safer. And at the same time it will get us much closer to being able to contain this... This is entirely justified and it's entirely lawful for the President to do it. Science is science, facts are facts."
