Murdered for wearing a turban

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ journalist, Jat Dhillon, and her family reflect on how their fears around racism and discrimination intensified after this hate crime twenty years ago.

Days after the 9/11 attacks in New York, Balbir Singh Sodhi - an American Sikh - was killed by Frank Roque in the US state of Arizona. He thought Balbir was an Arab Muslim because he had a beard and was wearing a turban.

Frank Roque's death sentence was later commuted to life in prison without parole. In 2016, he apologised for the killing and has now spoken of his remorse.

The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s Jat Dhillon and her family reflect on the fear they experienced in the aftermath of that hate crime.
