Austria's super-spreading ski resort: First compensation case starts
Ischgl has become known as the super-spreading ski resort of the Alps, after thousands of people claimed to have become infected with Covid-19 during an outbreak there in March 2020. It's now central to legal action just starting against the Austrian government.
Lawyers acting for the widow of 72-year-old Hannes Schopf, who died after allegedly contracting the disease at the resort are bringing the first of a number of compensation lawsuits - hinged on whether the Austrian authorities mishandled their initial response to the outbreak.
The Federal Attorney's office, which represents the state, told AFP it "will not comment on active proceedings".
Alexander Klauser is the lawyer representing the family. He says people should have been warned not to come to the resort after the initial cases were registered.
