Aukus: 'Australia needs nuclear-powered subs for deterrence'
Australia has defended its decision to scrap a defence deal with France in favour of a new pact with the United States and Britain. Barnaby Joyce, the country's deputy prime minister, says the decision to switch to nuclear-powered submarines from the US was a response to the changing strategic situation in the region.
