Paul Rusesabagina trial: "We think justice has been served"

Paul Rusesabagina has been sentenced to 25 years for terrorism by a court in Rwanda, after being found guilty of backing a rebel group behind deadly attacks in 2018 and 2019.

He's best known round the world for being the inspiration for the film 'Hotel Rwanda' - based on his efforts as a hotel manager to save hundreds of people during the genocide. In court he denied all charges and said he had been kidnapped from Dubai to be put on trial. His family say he's been tortured and not been given access to the medication he needs - something the government disputes.

Yolande Makolo is its spokesperson:

"We were all interested in having a fair trial. Rusesabagina was lured into coming into Rwanda and he was arrested on the basis of an arrest warrant. No laws were broken during this process. No national or international laws were broken."
