Sawhney: Music can challenge times we live in
Musician and composer Nitin Sawhney has said people tell him that his music has made them “appreciate other cultures”.
His latest album Immigrants explores themes of identity and immigration. He told Hardtalk's Stephen Sackur that musicians can change people and "challenge the times we live in".
Sawhney grew up in Kent, England and experienced racism as a child. He said: “It’s a sadness that I think we’ve returned largely to a time of intolerance and it’s been frustrating to watch over the last few years… that’s the context I think this album was made in”.
