Torah scroll looted by Nazis to be returned to Czech Republic
A ceremony is being held today to mark the return to Prague of one of the Torah scrolls looted by the Nazis from the Jewish community there during World War Two. The scroll will be used on a special Jewish holiday which celebrates the conclusion - and restart - of the annual Torah-reading cycle.
Rabbi David Maxa received the scroll on behalf of the Progressive Jewish Community Ec chajim.
"On a very personal note, I very much hope my son will be one of those who will have their Bar Mitzvah reading from the scroll, celebrating their Jewish identity, something I, as a child born to a survivor father, couldn't do in my childhood myself."
