The pop star Britney Spears has said on Instagram that she's on 'Cloud 9' after a Los Angeles judge suspended her father as conservator of her estate. Since 2008 - a time when she was dealing with mental health problems - every aspect of her life has been controlled by her father, including her finances, and even what kind of birth control she can use.

An accountant called John Zabel will now be appointed temporary Conservator for her estate - but ultimately her goal is for the conservatorship to end.

When Britney Spears' lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, announced the news outside the courthouse, the star's supporters broke into cheers.

Lawyer Tamar Arminak, who's been involved with celebrity conservatorship cases herself, explained how it all works.
