Nazi camp secretary caught after fleeing her trial

The 96 year old former secretary of a Nazi concentration camp commandant has been captured after trying to flee before her trial in northern Germany.

Irmgard Furchner was due to stand trial for complicity in 11,000 murders, but she failed to turn up and the judge issued a warrant for her arrest.

After her capture on Thursday, Ms Furchner was placed in provisional detention ahead of the opening of her trial.

Onur Ozata is a lawyer who represents some of the plaintiffs.

"For the victims and the survivors it's not important to have revenge on her and that she is going to be jailed. For them it's important that this trial is taking place and for her guilt to be established."
