The Ugandan artist who sees 'pride and beauty' in vitiligo
A 22 year old Ugandan artist has opened an exhibition about vitiligo, a skin condition caused by lack of melanin pigment which leads to pale white patches. It's a much misunderstood condition, seen as a curse by many.
The artist behind the pictures, Martin Senkubuge, says his work started when he was challenged by a client about his own lack of knowledge about the condition.
He says many people are nervous about his intentions when he first asks to paint them.
"I tell them how special and unique they are, and they need to show that, because no one else is going to recognise it until they are able to come out boldly. Because it's the public who stares so it's the public that must (see) their pride and beauty."
