DC Comics reveal that latest Superman character is bisexual
DC Comics has announced that its latest Superman, Jon Kent, son of Clark and Lois Lane, will be bisexual.
In its next comic book issue, due for release in November, Jon will share a kiss with a budding journalist, Jay Nakamura. It's the latest attempt by the son to establish a more modern identity to his father - which includes saving the world from the climate crisis rather than evil villains.
DC Comics made the announcement on National Coming Out Day, an annual LGBT awareness day started in the US. But does it matter?
Adam Vary, a writer for Variety, says it is a big deal.
"He's really trying to establish his own identity and really question why his father was content to just save the day in a one-off way as opposed to trying to fight the systemic issues that are causing so many problems."
