Nigeria: legal challenge launched over WhatsApp privacy
A lawsuit has been filed against President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria, challenging his government over its plans to monitor phone and WhatsApp calls and messages.
The government says it's part of its campaign to target criminals - and has already allocated over $4 million to the National Intelligence Agency to monitor telecommunications.
But the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project says the policy violates the public's right to privacy and is an unlawful use of state funds, and so has started legal action. Kóláwolé Olúwádà re is its Deputy Director.
