Liberia's honest teenager gets his reward
Honesty pays... at least it does in Liberia.
18-year-old Emmanuel Tuloe found $50,000 in cash at the side of the road, but he returned it to the businesswoman who lost it after he heard her tearful appeal on local radio. This was despite the fact he'd had to drop out of school to support his family, working as a motorcycle driver.
The owner gave him a cash reward, but the story spread, and now the president of Liberia, George Weah, has also recognised his good deed. Emmanuel was given a $10,000 cash reward, two motorcycles, a scholarship to graduate level, and the chance to work in the Presidential office.
The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s Jonathan Paye-Layleh told us more.
"Since the end of the civil war honesty has been a problem here... People just don't understand why a struggling young man who had to leave school because of difficulties would see money and decide to return it to the owner. So it's resonating well with people across Liberia."
