COP26: 'If they don’t take action we’re gonna die.'
A teenage climate activist in South Africa urges COP26 leaders to move to renewable energy.
Ahead of the COP26 environmental summit - where global leaders will attempt to agree on strategies to put a brake on increasing global temperatures - a recent survey of thousands of young people across 10 countries found that more than half of them thought the environmental future was frightening.
We heard the thoughts of 13 year-old South African environmentalist Yola Mgogwana on how she sees the future her generation will grow up in and her hopes for COP26.
“As a kid in an informal settlement in a marginalised community it worries me about how my future will look if we continue having leaders who are in denial about this climate issue. If they don’t take action we’re gonna die.â€
“Scientists have proven that we have ten years left for us to feel the effects of climate change. But there are already countries and already people living the future that people fear - like me. I want them to stop us using fossil fuels… moving to renewable energy.â€
