Niger: Dozens of children killed in school fire
Three days of mourning have begun in Niger after 26 children died after their school's thatched roof caught fire. Many more are being treated in hospital for severe burns after the blaze in the southern city of Maradi. Earlier in the year, 20 children, aged between two and four, died in a fire at their preschool in Niamey.
The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½â€™s Ishaq Khalid says the country just doesn't have enough safe schools for children.
"The authorities are saying that children are now not going to be taught in this kind of classrooms made of straw and wood because of the incident. The question is where are these children going to be taught? Because Niger has a chronic deficit of education facilities and infrastructure."
