'My wife was miscarrying, and it was a four-hour wait for an ambulance'
Caller Karl was told his wife could have died because of her long wait for an ambulance.
The College of Paramedics has told the ѿý that lives are at risk because of unacceptably long waits for a 999 response.
Listener Karl rang in to share his experience of waiting for an ambulance, which he was told may have been fatal to her.
Karl’s wife Stacy suffered a miscarriage and after ringing 999, Karl was told it would be a four-hour wait for an ambulance.
“When we finally got her to the hospital the nurse told us that if we hadn’t got her there within the hour, she would have passed away,” he said.
Reflecting on their experience, Karl told 5 Live’s Nicky Campbell, “I can understand losing the baby, but losing my wife as well would have been a real killer”.
