'It's such a joy to be deaf'
Last weekend Rose Ayling-Ellis and her partner Giovanni Pernice danced part of their routine on Strictly Come Dancing with a silent section in tribute to the deaf community, with Rose saying afterwards, ‘it’s such a joy to be deaf’.
Rose is one of many female deaf actors to grace our screens, including Sophie Leigh Stone from Doctor Who, Gabriella Leon who plays Jade Lovall in Casualty and Lauren Ridloff in the latest Marvel movie Eternals, starring as superhero Makkari.
So what effect is this increased visibility of deaf women having on the deaf community? Emma spoke to Camilla Arnold, the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s first deaf series producer and Teresa Waldron, the managing director of Deaf-initely Women, a charity supporting deaf women in Derby.
