Why looking into a red light every morning could help your eyesight - study

New research in the UK suggests that looking at a deep red light for three minutes in the mornings can significantly improve age-related declining eyesight.

Professor Glen Jeffery from the Institute of Ophthalmology at University College London is the lead author of the research.

"The eye consumes more energy than any other part of your body and it ages faster than any other part of the body," he says. "By the time you're 70 you've lost a third of the cells in your retina that collect light."

Describing his research for non-scientists, he says that if you deliver exactly the right amount of energy, at the right time of day, for the right amount of time, it will effectively "recharge the batteries in your eyes" for a week, improving your colour perception.
