Jamal Khashoggi: Suspect in murder of journalist arrested in Paris
Khaled Aedh Alotaibi was arrested at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris says police source. He's believed to be one of 26 Saudis wanted by Turkey over the killing.
A Saudi man suspected of involvement in the murder of the journalist Jamal Khashoggi has been arrested at a French airport, according to reports out of France. Some of those reports name the man as Khaled Aedh Alotaibi - one of 26 Saudis wanted for questioning by the Turkish authorities over the killing of Mr Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, three years ago.Â
Saudi Arabia has insisted that the murder was a mistake, a "rogue operation" in its words, by a team of agents sent to persuade this prominent critic to return to the Kingdom. Turkish officials, and international human rights investigators, have said the orders for Jamal Khashoggi's murder came from the very top.Â
On Saturday, the French president Emmanuel Macron became the first Western leader to visit Saudi Arabia and hold talks with the crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, since the killing.
