Romania begins first ever bear census
The Carpathian Mountains, in Romania, are home to some of the last remaining wilderness in Europe, where bears, wolves, and lynx still roam freely. But the spread of motorways and human habitation is rapidly eating into their terrain - and bears are entering towns in search of food. In order to find out how many bears there actually are, Romania has begun its first ever census of the bear population.Â
ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ reporter Nick Thorpe explains how the census is being carried out by analysing bear scat, or poo, and what the findings will reveal.
