Former gang member on speaking to children on the realities of knife crime
Mark Bracewell joined a gang at the age of thirteen. By the age of twenty-six he was jailed for a knife point robbery.
Ten years later he was the victim of a knife attack, in which he lost an eye.
Mark is now a knife crime campaigner and mentor, who's won awards for his work with troubled young people.
One of the people Mark has helped is his younger cousin Kyodi.
Kyodi was sentenced to ten years in prison for armed robbery.
‘Mark encouraged me and let me know that I was worth something’ he said.
The pair now visits schools, colleges and young offenders, to share their stories of knife crime.
Mark told 5 Live’s Naga Munchetty he shows children what happened to him, ‘I ask the kids who are talking and messing about to come to the front.’
