‘They said, ‘Whatever you do, don’t fly into North Korea!’’

Nineteen-year-old Zara Rutherford has become the youngest woman to fly solo around the world.

The British-Belgian teenager arrived back in Belgium at the end of last week - it was a journey in her microlight that spanned five months, 32,000 miles and five continents. Zara also only received her pilot’s licence two years ago.

Zara spoke to Emma Barnett on Woman’s Hour about all the challenges of the round the world trip, including having to avoid certain countries’ airspaces. She also described what it was like to fly over an active volcano in Iceland!

You can listen to Emma and Zara’s full conversation by heading to ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Sounds and listening to the Woman’s Hour episode from 24 January.
