The women's 1500m and men's 5000m relay short-track speed skating medals are won at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
The women's final is the first individual short track event of these Games. Choi Min-jeong is the defending champion and world record-holder, while her teammate Lee Yubin was the World Cup winner over this distance this season. Italy’s Arianna Fontana is aiming for a record-extending 11th Olympic short track medal – her haul from her previous four Games includes a 1500m bronze from Sochi in 2014. Canada’s Courtney Sarault, the daughter of a former NHL player, took silver at last year’s World Championships. World champion Suzanne Schulting of the Netherlands is targeting a third gold of the Games – but Britain’s Kat Thomson, who was due to be in her heat, pulled out on Wednesday morning.
in the men's A final, there is an opportunity for someone to grab gold after the world champions and the Olympic champions both missed out. Canada were the in-form team in this season’s World Cup, winning two of the four races. It would be a fairytale finish to an illustrious Winter Olympic career for Charles Hamelin – the 37-year-old Canadian has won six Olympic medals in his previous four Games. Also racing are China, who have never won gold in this event, along with South Korea, the Russian Olympic Committee and Italy.
