'It was therapy before I got therapy'
Sam Fender joined Nihal Arthanayake for the latest Headliners episode.
The pair explored Sam’s journey to success with two number one albums.
Sam compares the process of writing his songs to therapy.
"It was therapy before I got therapy…it’s still therapy…it’s cathartic."
"If I've had a bad day, the best thing I can do is pick up a pen.â€
"It was the first sort of healthy outlet I had as a young boy," he continued.
Then, in a slightly less poetic sense, quoted the late James Gandolfini. "As Tony Soprano says, ‘it’s like taking a dump.’"
The two also got into imposter syndrome, living frugally and remembering your roots.
