Team GB were due to enter a team into this event but decided against it at the last minute, with team captain Dave Ryding flying home on Thursday.
Switzerland are the defending champions and it would be a surprise if they didn't retain that title – they’ve won an unprecedented five alpine golds in Beijing and include Wendy Holdener in their squad. Norway are the reigning world champions while Sweden won World Championship silver in 2021 but are without giant slalom gold medallist and the jewel in their crown Sara Hector. Italy, bronze medallist at the 2019 worlds, are fielding a strong team including three-time Olympic medallist Federica Brignone and Marta Bassino. Austria won silver in PyeongChang and have a raft of technical skiers in their ranks, including Katharina Liensberger and Johannes Strolz, and for once River Radamus and his outrageous hair will not be the centre of attention for the USA as they include superstar Mikaela Shiffrin. The 26-year-old has experienced a heart-breaking three DNFs at this Games but has a sixth and final chance to win an elusive medal in the team event, although the ‘Ice River’ course has certainly not been her friend in Beijing.
