Could nasal sprays make better Covid boosters?
Imagine a world where a quick spray up your nose can complement existing vaccines against viruses like Covid-19.
Those fearful of the jab might be more open to having a nasal vaccine that is a spray but how does a nasal spray impact a person’s immune response when compared with jabs into muscles?
Dr Krishna Ella is the boss of Bharat Biotech, which is among the world’s leading vaccine manufacturers. Its best known product, Covaxin, is authorised against Covid in India and many other countries. But they hope its experimental nasal vaccine may prove to be the real game changer. Dr Ella says: “The gateway of infection is the nose. If you can protect that, you can protect the entire body.”
