United States lawmaker Michael McCaul says a 鈥渟trong message of deterrence鈥� from President Biden to Russian President Vladimir Putin is 鈥渓acking鈥� and an invasion of Ukraine looks likely.

Speaking to Hardtalk鈥檚 Stephen Sackur, Mr McCaul - who is the lead Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and one of the party鈥檚 most senior voices on international affairs - warned that the end of February is particularly high risk.

鈥淔ebruary 20th is an important date,鈥� he said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 the end of the Olympics, the ground will be frozen, the tanks can roll in鈥�.

Russia has repeatedly denied any plans to invade Ukraine despite massing more than 100,000 troops near its border.
