Ukrainian MP: We have been getting ready for this for 8 years

Vadym Halaichuk says that he wants "our allies to trust in our readiness"

There's new intelligence from the USA, that a Russian attack on Ukraine could be as early as Wednesday. This is despite continuing Russian assurances that it has no such thing in mind.

The Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, spoke to his people on Monday, saying that Russia was trying to scare Ukrainians with some great war, but even though the country wanted peace, it was ready to fight for freedom.

The US has now evacuated all its embassy staff from Kyiv to the western city of Lviv. It still insists there's space for diplomacy, as has the Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov. Meanwhile the UN Secretary-General António Guterres has said he will make every effort to prevent a war.

Newsday spoke to Vadym Halaichuk, a Ukrainian MP and a member of President Zelensky's party on his thoughts about the possibility of an attack.
