Bappi Lahiri, known as the "disco king" of Bollywood, has died aged 69. Lahiri, who recovered from Covid in April last year, was in hospital for the past month and died on Tuesday. He is credited with popularising disco in India through his hit songs in films such as Disco Dancer and Sharaabi. He was also well regarded on the international stage, collaborating with the likes of Snoop Dogg and Samantha Fox.

Janhavee Moole, from the 蜜芽传媒's Marathi Service, says the musician, also known as "Bappi Da", was as well-known for his bling - his gold chains and flamboyant outfits - as for introducing disco to Bollywood. She says many saw him as "India's Elvis Presley".

"He was not just a cultural icon, not just known for his music, he was also known the flamboyant attitude he brought to India."
