Anastasiia Yalanskaya, was a 26-year-old woman living in Ukraine. She decided to stay after Russia invaded and was helping to deliver aid to both children and animals in Kyiv.

On Thursday, she was delivering food to a dog shelter in suburban Kyiv, when she was shot by Russian troops.
The car she was in was allegedly targeted at close range.

Her close friend Andriy spoke to Newsday, he said, "We offered her to move to Bulgaria, but it was her decision to stay in Kyiv and help people, and animals."
