Amber Rudd: 'Our approach to Ukrainian refugees should be wholly different. We've got war in Europe'
Former ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Secretary Amber Rudd says the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Office and the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Secretary Priti Patel need a whole new approach to deal with refugees of the Ukrainian conflict.
Speaking to ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 4 Woman’s Hour presenter Emma Barnett on International Women’s Day, she said: "Women and children [are] being targeted. This is not business as usual. We need a new scheme."
Defence Secretary Ben Wallace has told the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ the government could and would do more to support refugees, and his department would help the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Office accelerate the system.
The UK has granted visas to 300 Ukrainian refugees under its new scheme so far, the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Office said.
