Will Chelsea survive Abramovich sanctions?
Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich has been sanctioned by the UK government as part of its response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The sanctions, that were imposed on Thursday, mean Abramovich is currently unable to sell the club, though a special licence granted by the government is allowing Chelsea to keep operating.
The retired Scottish footballer Pat Nevin believes the players will be fine, and the problems should be seen in the context of people in Ukraine, and the country itself, which are in graver danger. He says that the situation is unprecedented, and nobody has a clear idea of what will happen, but that the club will need to adapt - for example, if the players, who are used to travelling by private jet,"may need to rought it for a bit". His main concern is for the club's administrative and catering staff, who may find it hard to find other jobs if the club undegoes a radical restructure.
