
Housing Ukrainian refugees: 'You have to think carefully, can I commit to this?'
More than two million people have now fled Ukraine because of the Russian invasion, according to the UN. The UK government is expected to allow members of the British public to house Ukrainian refugees as the details of a second visa scheme are set to be announced on Monday. So far, the UK government has retained controls on entry and has been criticised for taking in about 1,000 refugees so far.
Helga Macfarlane, a retired journalist based near Aberdeen, offered an empty flat she owned to an Afghan family last summer after the Taliban took control in Afghanistan. She joined Anita Rani on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour to discuss her experience and the realities of housing a refugee family.
