Mariupol refugee: 'German and Polish people are really kind to us'

The war in Ukraine continues for a 20th day and as the fighting continues, so do efforts to try to get civilians out of danger.

Russian shelling of Kyiv continues, with explosions heard in the capital and a residential building set ablaze.

Some towns and cities have faced days of bombardment while others have so far escaped. Some areas of the country are safe to travel in while others are dangerous as Russian troops try to advance.

The government in Kyiv says more than 4,000 people escaped from front line areas on Monday through seven humanitarian corridors.

Newsday speaks to one of those who has crossed the borders into Germany, her name is Diana.
