
'It was like being in a washing machine with bullets’
Dominique van Heerden was part of Sky News’ team that was shot at whilst reporting near Kyiv during the first week of the war in Ukraine.
The senior foreign producer was with Sky News’ Chief Correspondent Stuart Ramsay, camera operator Richie Mockler, producer Martin Vowles, and local fixer Andrii Lytvynenko when they were ambushed whilst driving on a main road. A shower of bullets hit their car.
Miraculously, the whole team survived the ambush, but Stuart Ramsay was wounded. Dominique is now back in the UK.
She spoke to Emma Barnett on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour about the attack and what it has been like to cover the war in Ukraine.
