Ukraine war: The Kyiv surgeon still treating his patients
Many have left Kyiv but a surgeon has chosen to stay and continues to treat his patients and plan operations at the National Cancer Institute.
Russia has failed to take control of any major Ukrainian city since its forces invaded, apart from Kherson in the south. Meanwhile, in the capital Kyiv, the mayor has announced a new curfew that will last until Wednesday.
Many thousands have left Kyiv but Dr Oleksandr Stakhovski, a surgeon at Ukraine's National Cancer Institute, continues to treat cancer patients and says he's making ready to treat Ukrainian soldiers if that becomes necessary.
He says that whilst he originally thought hospitals would be safe places, what he's seen in Mariupol and Kharkiv has changed his mind. For him and his colleagues, treating patients is a distraction.
He goes on to say that there are currently enough supplies and that he plans to stay in Kyiv until such time as Russian forces may enter the city.
"We are here to protect and so far, it's our city. I am staying here for my patients and for the people who are around me."
