Nato emergency summit focuses on Ukraine
Leaders of Nato alliance meet in Brussels as 30,000 Nato and allied troops go on exercise
As the war in Ukraine enters its second month, Nato leaders are holding an emergency summit in Brussels to discuss the Russian invasion with the US President Joe Biden attending.
Nato is expected to approve an increase in its forces deployed to eastern Europe - specifically to Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania.
Kay Bailey Hutchison, former US ambassador to Nato under the Trump administration, thinks the alliance is united in its determination to support Ukraine without committing the defence alliance into a full scale war with Russia "if we can avoid it".
"We are going to reinforce the borders [of Nato] because with Vladimir Putin doing something so provocative in Ukraine the alliance is going to take everything seriously to deter encroachment."
"Nato wants to give Ukraine what it needs to stay the course... and will do more... to provide the ability for the Ukrainians to fight for themselves."
