Why Ukraine's youngest MP has taken up arms to defend Kyiv
Ukrainian's youngest parliament member, 26-year-old Sviatoslav Yurash, has taken up arms to defend the capital, Kyiv.
Peace talks are set to take place today between Ukrainian and Russian delegations in Turkey. Meanwhile, fighting on the ground in Ukraine continues, with Russian attacks causing civilian injuries and deaths.
At 26, Sviatoslav Yurash is Ukraine's youngest MP and he's taken up arms to defend Ukraine's capital, Kyiv. He lost his partner Alexandra Kuvshynova, a journalist, who was killed when her vehicle was attacked during shelling by Russian forces.
When talking about the negotiations, he told Newsday "The reality is that Mr Putin time and time again, is trying to point out to the world, and to all of usm that he is trying to destroy my nation, and wants to do that by any means necessary. So it's extremely hard to understand what this negotiation can provide for, not to mention that all of us who have lost and are a part of this fight, we cannot allow Mr Putin to take away either our independence, sovereignty, or integrity. We will not support loss of any of that."
