Ukraine war: Experiencing 'near-death' on the Donbas frontline

Russia has been refocusing its efforts on the east of Ukraine with observers saying it's recognising that its forces have been too spread out and that morale is tumbling. A Ukrainian officer with the Ukraine armed forces has been fighting in the Donbas region in the east of the country. He was wounded from battle and is now recovering in a military hospital in Dnipro where he was taken.

The officer says his unit was being observed by a Russian drone, and was then fired at. He remembers hearing the high-pitched sound of a shell, saw a bright light, and was thrown unconscious. He goes on to say that the Russians are refocusing efforts in the east of the country to compensate for the loss of Russian forces and the need to save face.

"I saw a white flash, heard a high-pitched noise and was unconscious. I thought the war was over for me."
